What’s the best bit of advice you’ve been given?

I recently watched a Samuel L Jackson Masterclass and his advice essentially was that if you don’t get a role then it wasn’t meant to be your role, it was meant to be the other person’s role and you’ll get the roles that were meant for you.

What was your headshot session like?

My headshot session with Sheona was everything that I could have hoped for. She helped select the best wardrobe options, talked me through each set-up and we played with various expressions, poses and looks. I’ve learned that lighting is key and it’s all about the eyes. My challenge was selecting my favourite images from the many she took.

Where did you study?

My acting education has been a journey and it’s still going. Beyond high school I haven’t studied formally, rather I’ve participated in various workshops and classes, read books, there is so much material online and of course learning through experience.

If you chose between doing a big film or a small film, which would you choose and why?

I would happily take either! A small film is great for the camaraderie that a smaller cast and crew generates and generally they are more passion projects. On the other hand, a big film probably has a bigger budget and that may bring all sorts of wonderful opportunities and experiences as well as an array of people to interact with and learn from.

What is your favourite type of role to play? Why?

They are all fun in different ways but probably roles that are further removed from my own personality, they offer that extra challenge.

If you could travel back in time to meet anyone (living or dead) who would it be and why?

So many options! If I knew Italian I think a conversation with Leonardo da Vinci would be enlightening. He had so many ideas about so many subjects.

Who is your agent?

I recently started acting again after a bit of a hiatus so at the time of writing I am currently in the market for a great agent.

Do you work in TV, film, theatre or all three?

I started in theatre but now my preference is film and television. There is so much great material out there made for television and streaming services.

What do you like about acting the most?

I love that it gives you the opportunity to explore different worlds and by that, I mean different characters, professions, social groups, perspectives, cultures, eras, and events. I love the storytelling element of acting. Film, television and theatre all have such capacity to move people and I love being a part of that.

When did you start acting? What got you started?

I think the concept of acting first dawned on me when I watched Jurassic Park as a kid. I remember looking at the girl in the film and thinking “How cool would it be to do that!”. I studied drama at school but then university took me in another direction. The acting bug never went away and I joined a local theatre group while I was studying, and it went from there.

What is your strength as an actor?

I am easy to get along with. Given that acting is always as part of a team of cast and crew I think working well with others helps everyone in the process.

Describe your most challenging role to date and why was it challenging?

I played Kate Gibson, wife of the keeper of the Bustard Head Lighthouse off the coast of Queensland. The lighthouse has a tragic history and QUT students focused on the story of the Gibson family for their final year assessment piece. The short film was narrated so I didn’t have any lines and had to do all my acting through my face and body.

What is your dream role? Why?

I don’t have a specific character in mind but I really engage with movies centred on true stories so taking on any roles like Keira Knightley’s in ‘Imitation Game’, Jessica Chastain’s in ‘Zero Dark Thirty’ or Jennifer Lawrence’s in ‘Joy’ would be awesome.

Who do you most admire? Why?

Cate Blanchett has had an enviable career taking on such varied roles across both stage and screen. I find her totally believable in all the characters she portrays and she has something about her that you just want to watch.
